With 57 positive and 43 negative votes, the US Senate did not have enough votes to convict Trump. All 50 Democratic senators have voted to convict the former president, seven Republicans and Trump’s party are also on the Democratic Party. In the first impeachment of February 2020 for alleged abuse of power for self-interest, Republicans voted against the impeachment of Trump. Because Republicans control the upper house, President Trump is naturally acquitted.
